The Regional Groundwater Management project addresses critical issues of water scarcity, overexploitation, and pollution of groundwater in Central Asia. Groundwater is essential for agriculture, domestic use,
and industrial activities, especially in water-scarce areas, where it
fulfils a significant share of water demand. Switzerland, building on
its experience with the GGRETA project, seeks to enhance regional
cooperation of groundwater among Central Asia countries. The initiative aims to close data gaps, promote conjunctive water management, and foster robust policies and institutional frameworks. By raising awareness, improving capacity, and introducing state-of-the-art technologies, the project seeks to protect groundwater resources and ensure their sustainable use. Furthermore, the project promotes access to clean water, the strengthening of ecosystems, and enhanced climate resilience. Switzerland's involvement underscores its commitment to sustainable development, peacebuilding, and achieving the SDGs in Central Asia.
